Why Do We Judge So Harshly?
On 19 Nov 2023, India lost the Finals of Men’s Cricket World Cup at Ahmedabad. After an unprecedented, unbroken 10 wins leading to the Finals, we (India) were the favourites to win the World Cup for the third time. But it was not to be. We were beaten by Australia that day. And a billion Indian dreams were shattered. Since the loss, many management lessons have been “learnt” and “analysis” done for the loss. But the question is why do we (Indians) feel so let down?
The emotions and expectations of a billion Indians leading to the Finals was typical of an Indian parent, for whom coming second is not good enough. A loss in the Finals seems like the end of the world. It seems that our boys have failed. We forget that the same boys gave us 10 fantastic games. They gave some exemplary performances leading up to the Finals. And they are actually Runner’s up at CWC 2023. We must believe that they did their best. That they could not have done anything more at that time. They can always get better in times to come.
Let’s not judge so harshly (Indian cricket team/our teams at work/our family/our children). Let’s enjoy the Game. There is more to life than just one “Finals”.
