Response Cycle: Correction–> Prevention–> Accountability
Effective handling of a challenge needs not just right tools but also right sequence of action steps. If we use wrong sequence, often the case– results are disastrous
e.g. in an accident of a car hitting a person and speeding away, what shall we do; chase the car to catch errant driver (Accountability) or take victim to a hospital (correction)? While both steps are important, what we choose over the other makes difference between Life & Death
In the heat of the event, first mistake we make is to go for accountability, chasing and beating up the errant driver, not realising that the victim, lying on road, may die without immediate help. We make second mistake by forgetting to work on future prevention, which destines us to repeat same mistakes
Trio of actions, for complete resolution, in correct sequence is
- Correction: The first thing we should do is to redeem or remedy the situation
- Prevention: Set up a system of pro active steps & checks to avert repeat
- Accountability: Hold the person at the root cause of this incident accountable
- Correction is about Closure through Action
- Prevention is about Care through System
- Accountability is about Justice through fair Trial
