Exercise Power of your Perspective
Often in life it is not what ‘ is ‘ , but how you ‘See’ it the ‘ sense ‘ it makes to you ; that fundamentally shapes what you do & what you achieve – That is the Power of the Perspective you hold – which lies not in your talent or circumstances , but in your mind orientation .
Your talent /abilities are only Enablers ; Driver is your Perspective – your Mind Orientation !
Though many may be familiar with the story of ‘The elephant and the five blind men’ ;I briefly capture here for those who have not heard it before .
Once an elephant came into a village where five blind men lived. They had no knowledge of what an elephant was – their best bet at understanding it ,was through their sense of touch . However, as the elephant was a huge entity, all that , each of the five men could get to do was touch but a part of the elephant. Thus their understanding of elephant was based on the part they touched. Accordingly, for the one who touched the elephant’s tail, elephant was like a ‘rope’, for the one touching the trunk, the animal was like a ‘pipe’, and so on. In sum, each blind person had a different perception of the animal , but no one could get a complete picture.
Essence of the story is :
• The perception of each blind person in the story is not incorrect; it is just incomplete.
• Only when their 5 perspectives are put together , does the complete picture of the elephant emerge .
Extend this analogy for Life Application
• Each unknown situation in life is like an elephant, and each of us is but one blind person.
• Our orientation/perception acts as a blinker ,constraining our view – which is not incorrect , but incomplete
• Now imagine, with the same talent we have, how much more we can leverage an advantage of a complete perspective, vis-à-vis a restricted one — a multiplier of 5:1 in our story above
That is the power of perspective!
